Do you have a horrible case of insomnia and are wondering what the reasons for insomnia are?  Insomnia truly is a horrible condition is it not?  The funny thing is, most of the population purposefully restricts their sleeping time down to 6 hours a day or even less!  They then use coffee as a stimulant to force themselves awake through the day.  We however are not getting sleep due to reasons outside of our control.

Now If you’re not used to suffering from insomnia, chances are you don’t have a chronic case of it, but that it’s just been brought on by some other external stimuli.  If you are unsure about what the reasons for insomnia could possibly be, here is a listing of things which could have caused it that you can sift though, hopefully you can put your finger on the culprit:

1.        Depression

One of the reasons for insomnia is depression.  Has something been bothering you as of late?  Perhaps you’re having marital troubles, relationship troubles, personal issues or issues with someone else who’s a friend a co-worker or someone in your immediate family.  Regardless of who or what is causing it, depression is a possible candidate.

2. Stress

Very similar to the first culprit, the reason for your sleepless nights may be due to stress. Are you studying for an important test or midterm? Do you have a deadline at work you’re working towards or are you being overly pressured at work on a consistent basis? Do you have too many family obligations to handle day to day, so many that it is driving you crazy? Think about it, this could be the problem if it’s not the former.

3. Anxiety

Do you have an important engagement to attend tomorrow, the day after or sometime in the near future? Are you dreading that event, is it causing you a lot of worry and grief? If this is the case, perhaps your sleepless nights are due to you not being able to get your mind off this future event.

4. Big Dinner

Did you just have a massive dinner that your stomach is now digesting? If so this could be one of the reasons for insomnia. It’s not a good idea to eat a very large meal right before bedtime, your body will be too occupied with digestion to be able to get into the proper condition for sleep. Make sure you dinner is of a moderate size and don’t do any late night snacking.

If it is none of the above, perhaps it is a medical condition that is bringing this on, in which case it’s important that you go and see a doctor about this soon. You may be able to solve this problem with the proper prescription medications.
