Motorised Treadmill

If you’re looking for a motorised treadmill, you’re making the right choice. Treadmills can either be manual/magnetic or motorized/electric, the difference between the two is both price and quality. Sure both types of treadmills will get the job done, but you’ll find a motorised treadmill will on average be more expensive than their magnetic counterparts and also you’ll find they last longer.

Magnetic treadmills are simple machines that will either provide resistance by belt tension or by magnetic resistance in the more expensive versions. However, with a motorised treadmill, you will have much more control over the level of resistance and it can be changed simply by pressing a button.

Now when you’re looking to pickup a good motorised treadmill, there are a few considerations you’ll need to make:

1. The Motor and The Horsepower

When you are considering a motorised treadmill, you need to find one which has at the bare minimum 2HP, anything less is not going to provide you with the best workout. In addition to this, you want to find a treadmill with a good treadmill motor, you want one that has a warranty of at least 1 year so that you won’t have to worry about the treadmill breaking down. Of course if you’re using your machine on a daily basis, you’re going to want a better motor as well as a longer warranty.

2. Stability and Smoothness

Another consideration is going to be how sturdy the treadmill is. You don’t want a treadmill that is going to wind up creaking and squeeking a couple of months after you buy it, that’s only going to irritate you and make you wish you never bought the big machine in the first place. To avoid this, you want to make sure you buy a quality machine that is sturdy that feels like it can support your weight easily.

You also want to make sure that while you run on the treadmill you get a smooth ride. You don’t want the machine to be too loud or it will only distract you or cause annoyance for those around you while you’re working out.

3. Stride Distance

Another consideration when you’re picking up a motorised treadmill is how much room you have for running. If you’re on the taller side, you’re going to have a longer stride and thus you’re going to want to get a larger treadmill that will be able to incorporate your longer gait.

4. Features

We all want to the latest bells and whistles on our cool new treadmill and there are quite a few of them on the expensive models! As far as the basics go, you want a water bottle holder and a tray or area for you to lay your towel down in front of you on the machine. In addition to this, you’ll want to get a treadmill with a calorie counter and optionally even a heart rate monitor. The heart rate monitor isn’t necessary but it’s good to have so you know if you’re staying in your target heart rate zone to burn the optimal amount of fat.

Now if you’re really getting fancy and looking to spend several thousands of dollars, you can even look for machines that have a built in monitor and headphone jack so you can watch your favorite TV shows while you workout.

5. Dimensions/Space

Of course when you’re looking to pickup a motorised treadmill, you’re also going to want to make sure it will fit in your room and won’t take up too much space. If you happen to live in a condo or you want to put the treadmill in a small room, one thing you can look for is the foldable/portable treadmill. This will save you a lot of space as it can be folded up and rolled away.

In addition to this though, you also want to make sure you take measurements of the width, height and length of the treadmill so that it doesn’t end up being crammed into a room that’s just too small to support it.

Now that should just about cover some of the most important things to look out for when getting a motorised treadmill. If you’re looking to pick one up, I’d suggest you only do some window shopping first at the mall and try out the various treadmills there to see how you feel with them. Once you’ve narrowed things down, look to make your final purchase online on a trusted site like Amazon or Ebay since you can often times save $100-$200 in the cost of the treadmill simply by picking it up online.
