Mini Treadmill

Are you looking for a mini treadmill?  Mini treadmills are a sign of the times, these days obesity plagues our country just as much as other ailments.  65% of adults in the U.S. are overweight and an astonishing 32% of children are obese as well.

There has therefore been a new trend of creating exercise equipment for children, elliptical machines and treadmills so that children can exercise while inside of the house and keep themselves from putting on too many extra pounds.

Granted, the mini treadmill has gotten a lot of slack as many parents seem to think it is completely unnecessary for a child to be on one of these.  Some believe that children should be out and playing in a playground, riding a bike outside or just running about with their friends rather than being cooped up at home on a mini treadmill.

Then there are those who think that it is unsafe and getting a child one will only invite trouble as they will be likely to misuse it and wind up hurting themselves while on it. 

So what is the verdict?  Should children be allowed to use these mini treadmills or should you not even bother with it as it’s too much of a risk or just unnecessary?  That decision is for each individual parent to make, however I myself don’t see anything wrong with it.  You’re teaching your children a healthy habit, to exercise on a regular basis.  Eventually they’re going to get older and if you ingrain healthy habits such as this into them at a young age it can only yield positive results. 

As for these being dangerous for children, that’s nonsense.  Sure, you will have to monitor them when they first try it out, but it’s just like anything else a child has to learn how to use.  A bike can be dangerous for a child, but are you going to prevent your child from enjoying riding a bike simply because of that?  Of course not, you’d be robbing them of what should be a staple in any child’s life!

Similarly, children should not be stopped from using a mini treadmill simply because there is a chance for them to get hurt. They need only be monitored when they’re first getting used to it. As long as you supervise and make sure they’re getting used to it and not winding up falling off of it, it’s a fine toy and tool to have.

The other great thing about these mini treadmills is that they are quite cheap in price, many of them can be found for under $100. If you happen to have any pets, you can even allow them to run on it as well, so it’s not limited to just your kids.

In the end it’s your decision, however it’s definitely an interesting and beneficial invention which will hopefully see its way into many more homes.
